Some of the extinct West Indian macaws. A sample plate from my book project (one of my favourites, by the way).
Notes: Ara jamaicensis depicted here shows an bird painted by Albin, but probably is just his view of Ara macao (then invalid). Ara autochthones and Ara sp. (from Montserrat) have a hypothetical colouration (I have no idea from what species group they are related). The others are hypothetycal species, know only by early accounts. Ara erythrocephala and Ara atwoodi made after ''The Doomsday Book of the Animals'', and Ara erythrurus and Ara gossei made after ''Extinct Species'' book. Ara martinicus based in a painting by Savery, which shows an unknow kind of blue-and-yellow species, probably Ara martinicus, but could also be Ara erythrurus since the evidences for it existence or it's red tail are so few.
excellent work as always!
